Homemade Gift Ideas For Valentines Day

Like many holidays, Valentines Day has become very commercialized. The price of roses tends to increase around this time of year and the cost of a box of candy can be out of the average person's budget. Gifts should be about the feelings behind it not the price tag. I hope that this article will provide you with a few tips to make your own memorable Valentines Day gifts at home that will also show the receiver that you care. You may be thinking that this takes a great deal of time or talent to make your own gifts, but you would be wrong. Hopefully, this article will give you a few ideas for a homemade gift you can feel proud to give your loved one on Valentines Day.

A scrapbook is a great homemade gift that is full of sentiment. It is also one of the easiest gifts you can make. The first step would be to try to pick a theme for your scrap book. This can make it easier to decide which pictures to use. If you can not decide on a theme, pick out the pictures first and this may help you with an idea. Try to select pictures that have special meaning to your partner. Not all of the pictures need to contain you. Use pictures that include their parents, siblings, children or pets. You can also use pictures of their favorite trip, anything that would have meaning to your partner. Of course you may have to be sneaky to get the pictures unnoticed. Once the theme emerges, you can begin your search for the right scrapbook and accessories, such as stickers, ribbons or other graphics. Finally, assemble the scrapbook by gluing the pictures and accessories to the pages in any order you like. You can put it chronologically, order of importance or any other way you can think of. You can not go wrong if the final product came from your heart.

Homemade candles are another great gift idea. Making candles is quite simple. There are many kits that can be found in craft supply stores which include everything you need to make a your candle as well as simple step by step instructions. There are also many books on the subject that can be purchased for very little money. Basically, the steps are to melt the wax, insert the wick, pour the candle into the mold and allow the candle to set before releasing it. You can even add dyes and perfumes to create a candle that is special to both you and your partner. When adding color or scent to a candle, care should be taken to add them at the proper time for the best results. This is covered in the step-by-step manuals.

In this day and age almost everyone either has a computer or knows someone who does. A very personal idea for a Valentine's Day gift is to make a CD filled with your partner's favorite music or a DVD with pictures or video that has meaning to your partner. You can even combine the pictures and videos with music that fits well with each picture. This may sound complicated, but I'll bet you know a teenager who has no problem putting one together for you.

Inexpensive Valentines Day Gifts

Valentines Day, like many other holidays has become very commercialized. You may have noticed that the price of roses tends to increase around this time of year. The cost of a box of candy can also be out of the average persons budget. This tends to make people think that a great Valentines Day gift has to be expensive. Gifts are about the giving, not the price tag. I hope that this article will provide you with a few tips to finding an inexpensive Valentines Day gift that also shows the receiver that you care.

Just because the price of roses has sky rocketed doesn't mean that giving flowers is out of the question. Consider giving your Valentine a single red rose or their favorite flower. Another great idea is to give a plant on Valentines Day. You could decorate the potted plant to coincide with the Valentine theme. Take a sheet of inexpensive red wrapping paper and place under the pot. Bunch the paper up and around the pot and tie with a white bow to hold it in place. This would be a gift that can grow as your relationship grows.

Valentines Day often falls in the middle of the week. This can really present a problem for the busy couple. In this case, a great idea is to plan an at-home-date. Set the mood, order a pizza and rent some romantic movies. You could even give your true love gift basket filled with movies, microwave popcorn, candy and a bottle of wine. This will allow the two of you to spend the evening together and catch up on each others lives.

One final gift idea is a journal. Journals come in a variety of sizes, shapes and styles anywhere books are sold. You can chose a journal in a style you know your partner will really love. Many journals come with a picture or a quote on the cover which should be meaningful and special to your partner. This is important because your partner is more likely to fill the pages if they like the look of the journal. You should write a heartfelt note on the first page of the journal that lets your partner know why they are important to you. Try to make the note meaningful but short. Include an encouragement to your partner to use the journal to place all their fears and concerns in. This will let your partner know that you care about them and their well being.

Dog Grooming At Home

If you want to avoid the high cost of the groomers, you will need to invest in good dog grooming equipment. Although the initial cost can be a little high, the long term savings of grooming your pet at home will astound you. Home dog grooming kits can run aware from $40.00 all the way up to $380.00. Of course the more you spend the more accessories you get. For the beginner, clippers and comb attachments should be sufficient. There are also kits available that come with a how-to video. If you are really unsure of yourself, you may want to invest in this type of kit.

Pet grooming does not always have to be performed by a professional groomer, it can also be done at home. If you are a do-it-your-self type person or just have limited funds, there are some safety tips you might want to keep in mind. Because the animal you are grooming is special to you, you want to keep the animal safe and calm. Any undue pain or injury can cause emotional stress to your animal and damage to the level of trust the pet may have with you. The following tips will help to ensure a safe and pleasurable grooming experience.

Although most pets don't like this, the excess hair in their ears must be clipped. The excess hair can build up moisture that will trap bacteria and cause ear infections. It can also be a breeding ground for ear mites. Either one of these can cause your pet a great deal of discomfort. A good indication that a dog has an ear problem is when the dog scratches and shakes their head. Mites can actually cause damage to their inner canal because they try to stick their nails inside their ears to scratch. Large eared dogs already have a predisposition for ear problems and can rupture blood vessels with continued shaking. An easy way to remove ear hair is by using nose hair trimmers.

A common mistake made by first time home groomers is to shave the animal all the way. This is ill advised if the animal is an outside pet, because the coat protects the animal from the cold and the sun. Both can cause serious skin damage which could lead to expensive veterinarian bills. A lack of hair can also cause rashes. The hair in some breeds secrete essential oils that protect and lubricate the skin, while others such as Labradors have two coats that serve different functions for the animals safety. Try to shave matted areas as close as possible and use a brush to work out the rest of the matted area. Even shaving just the matted areas to the skin will leave your pet in danger of the sun and wind.

If you are using clippers, you first want to brush the hair backwards against the grain and then move your clippers with the grain. The noise of the clippers may scare your dog, so stroke him with the other hand and offer soothing words to calm him. Some home grooming kits may have a variety of clipper comb lengths that can be used with the varying length and thickness of the coat. If this is your first time, you may want to experiment first in one unnoticeable area before continuing the entire job.

When shaving the underbelly of a female dog, beware the nipples. Remember to be equally careful when shaving the underbelly of male dogs. Home pet grooming is an inexpensive way to keep your pet healthy and happy. Just remember to take it slow your first few times. When you and your dog are more comfortable with the home grooming, you should be able to groom your dog professionally and at a much lower cost.

Getting the Stink out of Your Dog: Ideas For Bathing Your Dog

There are many different dog bathing supplies on the market, but sometimes what you have at home will help you the most. Dog owners are often quick to tell you that anything that is stinky or decaying, appeals to dogs. This is especially true for those dog owners that live near a forest, beside a river, or on a farm . It doesn't seem to matter what is causing the foul odor, if it stinks and can be rolled in, your dog will be happy. Even though smelling like a sewer system is a dogs idea of nirvana, the owner is often less enthusiastic. The odor coming from your pet can mean one of two things, either you have to take the time to take your pet to the pet groomer, or you have to bath your dog yourself. Even then there is no guarantee that you can remove all of the offensive odor.

Dog experts believe that a dog rolling in foul smelling things may be an attempt to disguise themselves. Even the experts don't really understand why a dog feels the need to conceal their scent. This could be a natural instinct that comes from a time when they hunted for their dinner. Another natural instinct is to hide their scent as a form of protection. They could be trying to hide from a potential predator such as other packs of feral dogs. Of course it is always possible that dogs roll in the stinky objects because it feels good.

Obviously the quickest and easiest way to remove unpleasant odors from your dog's coat is to wash your dog. Be sure use a shampoo made for dogs. Shampoos made for human hair is often too harsh and will strip away the natural oils in the dog's coat, leaving the skin unprotected and susceptible to rashes and infections. If the odor is especially strong, like the scent of a skunk, try bathing the dog in tomato juice.

If you have a dog that habitually rolls in stinky items, you may want to consider having his coat clipped short. This will make the dog more comfortable during the hot summer months and will be easier for you to wash.

If after bathing your dog you still detect a strong odor, the source might not be the dogs coat but a sign of a more serious health problem. For example, dental issues can make a dogs breath smell so foul that you can smell it throughout the house. Strong breath odor can also be an indication of a more serious disease such as kidney failure and diabetes. Dogs can also be prone to forming anal sacs that become impacted and infected, and extremely stinky. If washing your dog does not seem to lessen or remove the odor, take your dog to your veterinarian to rule out a more serious problem.

Eliminating Floors Off Your Household Chore List

Are you looking for a cheap easy way to clean your floors? Here are a few common household supplies that will erase one item off your household chore list. Try a few of these tips below and see how proud you are of your floors.

Wood Floors:
Mix a 1 to 1 ratio of vegetable oil and white vinegar into
a solution and apply a thin coat. Rub in well.

Painted Wooden Floors:
Mix 1 gallon of hot water with 1 teaspoon of washing soda. Washing soda is
sold commercially. Use a mop, sponge, or soft brush to mop the floor. You want to avoid
string mops because they are not good for aggressive mopping. This solution is also
good for removing mildew.

Brick and Stone Floors:
Mix 1 cup white vinegar into 1 gallon water. This type of floor is best cleaned with a brush.
It also requires a fair amount of elbow grease. To rinse use clean water and any type of mop.

Ceramic Tile:
Mix 1/4 cup white vinegar (more if very dirty) into 1 gallon water.
This solution removes most dirt without scrubbing and doesn't leave a
film. Using soap in conjunction with hard water will tends to leave an insoluble film.

For Vinyl and Asbestos Tiles:
Remove wax buildup by pouring a small amount of club soda on a
section. Using a soft bristle brush, scrub this in well. Let it soak in a few minutes and wipe clean.

For Linoleum Flooring:
To remove old wax by mopping, mix a solution of 3 parts water to 1
part rubbing alcohol. Scrub this in well and rinse thoroughly.

To remove black heel marks: Rub the heel mark with a paste of
baking soda and water. Don't use too much water or the baking
soda will lose its abrasive.

A few drops of white vinegar in the cleaning water will help
to remove grease. Dull, greasy film on a no-wax linoleum floor
can be washed away using 1/2 cup white vinegar
mixed into 1/2 gallon water.

For the no-wax floor, polishing with Club Soda will make it twinkle.
